Our Research Our research groups work closely with affiliated departments at Concord Hospital. Andrology The Andrology group pursues basic, applied, clinical and public health research in male reproductive health, medicine, and biology. Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology The Atherosclerosis Laboratory group uses various cell and animal models to study macrophage foam cells. The Vascular Biology Group incorporates a mixture of basic and clinical science aimed at understanding, preventing and treating heart disease and its complications. Biogerontology The Biogerontology Laboratory group performs research into the biology of ageing and age-related diseases with a major focus on the effects of old age on the liver and the cells of the hepatic sinusoid. Bone Biology The Bone Research Program pursues basic, applied and clinical research in bone health and biology. Burns and Reconstructive Surgery The Burns and Reconstructive Surgery group researches all aspects of burn care and specialises in tissue engineering of 3-dimensional skin substitutes for severe burns patients. Colorectal Surgery Research The Colorectal Surgery Research group focuses on clinical research for the colorectal community including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, proctology, pelvic floor disorders, intestinal failure and entero-cutaneous fistulae. CONCORDANCE The CONCORDANCE registry is a clinician-driven initiative describing clinical care for acute coronary syndromes patients admitted to Australian hospitals. Northcott Neurobiology The Northcott Neurobiology group finds gene mutations causing neurodegeneration of peripheral nerve and motor neurons. Platelet, Thrombosis and Cancer Research The Platelet, Thrombosis and Cancer Research Laboratory group studies the mechanisms of clot formation, the biology of platelets and coagulation proteins and how manipulation of these can be used to influence cardiovascular disease and cancer.
