Objectives
- To develop a shared understanding with participating youth workers of the Yhunger program and resources, particularly the central tenet of ‘learning by doing’
- To provide youth health workers, community sector and educator providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement the Yhunger kit in their services
- To equip youth health workers, community sector and educator providers with tools to assess the impact of the Yhunger kit on the living skills of young people and improve the quality of the food and physical activity related practices and policies in their services
Yhunger Youth Worker Training Workshop

Who should attend?
Youth workers from specialist youth homelessness services, youth health services, alternative education providers and other interested youth organisations.
What will you learn?
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Be familiar with the food literacy skills young people need for improved health when learning to live well independently
- Describe current strategies their youth services use in relation to healthy eating and physical activity, identify gaps (individually and organisationally) and assist them to improve their policies and practices
- Increase the understanding of youth workers on the educational and social value of “learning by doing” in the Yhunger kit and for enhancing youth engagement
- Increase the confidence and ability of youth workers to use the Yhunger kits, cook selected Yhunger recipes and try a sample of tabletalk activities with the relevant brainfood factsheets
- Identify how they could use the Yhunger resources most effectively with young people, including strategies on cooking healthy food and increasing physical activity opportunities
- Be aware of how they can evaluate a suitable program of Yhunger activities in their service and the skill development of young people, using the checklists provided in the kit, post training measures and networking

Yhunger Refugee and Asylum-Seeking Youth (RASY) Workshop

Who should attend?
Youth workers from humanitarian settlement programs, refugee health services and ESL education providers such as Intensive English Centres and other interested youth organisations.
What will you learn?
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Be familiar with the four pillars of food security that refugee young people and their families face when resettling in Australia, especially for when learning to live independently or as unaccompanied minors
- Appreciate the educational and social value of ‘learning by doing’ in the Yhunger kit for enhancing youth engagement and a right based approach to food and health
- Describe current strategies their youth services use in relation to healthy eating and physical activity, identify gaps (individually and organisationally) and assist them to improve their policies and practices
- Increase the confidence and ability of youth workers to use the Yhunger kits, cook selected Yhunger recipes and try a sample of tabletalk activities with the relevant Brainfood factsheets
- Identify how they could use the Yhunger resources most effectively with young people, especially from refugee and refugee-like backgrounds, including strategies on cooking healthy food and increasing physical activity opportunities
