New CT scanner for Concord Hospital Emergency Department
The new CT scanner will improve access to imaging for Emergency Department patients.
Concord Hospital has officially opened a new CT Scanner in the Emergency Department, providing increased access to imaging and diagnosis for patients requiring urgent care.
Sydney Local Health District and Concord Hospital Executive and staff gathered to celebrate the new Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, which is the first phase of a $4.4 million refurbishment for the Emergency Department.
“We've opened our brand-new CT scanner at Concord ED today,” said Dr Phil Visser, the Director of Concord Hospital Emergency Department.
“It's a great day for our department; it's great for patient care, and it's great for our staff.”
Dr Visser said the new scanner would allow patients in the Emergency Department to access CT imaging without leaving the department.
"We now have the opportunity to just walk from the room next door and bring someone in and seamlessly provide care," Dr Visser said.
Concord Hospital’s Acting Director of Radiology Robert Loneragan said the new service was a result of many staff working together.
"We're working closely together to improve patient care, make life easier for the ED staff, and so we're very happy to be doing this today," he said.
The District’s Capital Infrastructure and Engineering team refurbished a large part of the Emergency Department to house the new scanner.
“I would like to thank our staff in the Emergency Department, Medical Imaging/Radiology, Capital Works and all staff who have been involved in preparations for operational readiness,” District Chief Executive Dr Teresa Anderson said.
“This is the first phase of the multimillion-dollar upgrade of the Emergency Department, improving the experience of staff and patients.”
The addition of the CT scanner in the Emergency Department is the second stage of investment in state-of-the-art medical imaging services for Concord Hospital patients. One of two CT scanners in the Radiology Department was replaced in 2023.
Planning is also underway for an additional new MRI scanner at Concord Hospital.
