Two Sydney Local Health District hospitals have once again achieved top rankings in  Newsweek's 2024 World’s Best Hospitals list.

Concord Hospital has ranked 25th in hospitals across Australia, an improvement of four spots from the hospital’s ranking of 29 in 2023.

Joseph Jewitt, Concord Hospital Acting General Manager, said this result was a reward for his team’s tireless work over the past few years.

“The staff of Concord Hospital have been working so hard to ensure every patient gets the best possible care,” he said.

“To see our ranking improve every year is a testament to those efforts, and I congratulate all of our staff on this great result.”

RPA has also once again been ranked as the best hospital in Australia – the third year in a row that the hospital has claimed the top spot.

RPA also jumped 10 spots on the overall global list, sitting at 56th, compared with 66 in 2023.

Kiel Harvey, RPA General Manager, said he was thrilled with the result.."I'm very proud of every member of staff who has continued to provide patients with the best possible care," he said. "This result solidifies RPA’s place as Australia’s leading hospital for clinical research and innovation."

Dr Teresa Anderson AM, District Chief Executive, was also proud of these achievements, praising the commitment to District-wide world-class care.

“The results are an encouraging reflection on the efforts of our workforce to continue improving patient outcomes, and I am proud of the work our staff do every day to ensure every patient gets the best possible care,” she said.

“Our amazing staff work hard every day to make a difference for our patients, their families and our community.”

This year, only six Australian hospitals are ranked in the top 250 hospitals in the world.

The score is based on an online survey of more than 85,000 medical experts and public data from post-hospitalisation patient surveys, and also considers metrics on hygiene as well as a Statista survey on the use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs).

The 2024 list ranks more than 2,400 hospitals in 30 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and throughout Europe and Asia. It’s the sixth time that the Newsweek World’s Best Hospital’s list has been published.
