The project will be the first major redevelopment of the hospital in 25 years.

Canterbury Hospital will undergo a $350 million redevelopment after Premier Chris Minns announced the project at the hospital on Sunday 10 September.

Mr Minns toured the hospital with Health Minister Ryan Park, Industrial Relations Minister and Member for Canterbury Sophie Cotsis, our District Chief Executive Dr Teresa Anderson, AM, and Canterbury Hospital General Manager Michael Morris before announcing the new project.

This will be the first major redevelopment of the hospital in 25 years.

Dr Anderson said the whole community would benefit from the new work at Canterbury Hospital.

“This investment will mean expanded and improved facilities to support our staff, which will lead to better public health service provision and outcomes for our patients,” Dr Anderson said. 

Mr Morris said the redevelopment would increase the hospital’s capacity to provide world-class services to a growing population and praised the work of staff.

“This is the beginning of an exciting time for Canterbury Hospital and I want to thank you all for your ongoing hard work and dedication to our patients,” he said.

Both Dr Anderson and Mr Morris said staff would play a key role in planning for the new redevelopment.

“As this new project gets under way, we will actively seek to engage with staff and the community to help inform various elements of the redevelopment, Dr Anderson said.

“Your input will provide valuable insights to help us better understand what people want and need at Canterbury Hospital.”

Mr Morris said he would provide updates on the project’s progress and ensure staff were informed of opportunities to become involved in the planning process.

The $350 million Canterbury Hospital redevelopment will be a joint project of Sydney Local Health District and Health Infrastructure. It follows similar joint projects in the District – the $750 million RPA redevelopment, now awaiting State Significant Development Approval, and the $342 million Concord Hospital project.
