A souvenir tin box of sweets was sent to members of the British, Colonial and Indian Armed Forces for Christmas 1914 by Princess Mary. This amounted to over 2,620,000 people, with the British public donating over £162,500 for the gifts.
The Princess wished to ensure that every man and woman “wearing the King’s uniform on Christmas Day 1914” received a gift.

Most donations were small amounts sent by thousands of everyday people from all parts of the United Kingdom. This one was received by Sister Nellie Gould.
In 1967, a group of civilian surgeons, theatre sisters and a radiographer were sent by RPA to Vietnam. They were known as the third Australian Surgical Team and were sent under the Commonwealth Government’s SEATO aid program.
