Woodbine Cottage is the original homestead built by the family of Isaac Nichols in 1833, following his death when the land was used for orcharding between 1819-40. Issac Nichols was a convict turned businessman who would serve as the colony’s first postmaster.
Woodbine consists of two structures, the original single fronted timber framed cottage and an annex linked by an enclosed walkway. The cottage is Colonial Georgian in style with a hipped roof, front verandah and lean-to with skillion roof and verandah to the rear. French doors are located each side of the main front door and the windows are timber framed.
Woodbine is thought to have been used by Thomas Walker and his family as a weekender during the construction of Yaralla House. It is thought to be the oldest residential building in the Canada Bay Council area and is privately tenanted today.
