The countdown to Innovation Week in Sydney Local Health District has begun – with the flagship event celebrating staff, showcasing services and sharing ideas to provide the very best care for patients, their families and the community.

“Innovation Week brings together our staff, clinicians, researchers, industry partners, patients, families, consumers and the wider community and is an opportunity to highlight our services, network and collaborate,” Dr Teresa Anderson, the District’s Chief Executive, said.

The theme for Innovation Week in 2022 is connection, collaboration and dreaming big for the future – and for the first time it’ll be a hybrid event with staff and delegates able to attend virtually or connect in person.

This year, the Innovation Week line-up will see the District host a series of major activities over five days – including the Sydney Innovation and Research Symposium which began 10 years ago.

On Monday 30 May, staff will be encouraged to share a “Cuppa with a Colleague” – an opportunity to forge new friendships with workmates from different departments on campus.

There’ll also be staff exercise, yoga and meditation classes, fresh fruit deliveries and history walks at Balmain, Canterbury, Concord and RPA hospitals.

On Tuesday 31 May, in recognition of Pride Month, the Patient and Family Experience Symposium will focus on the experiences of the District’s LGBTIQ+ communities and the people who support them.

On Wednesday 1 June, a select group of the District’s inspiring female leaders – and the male colleagues who champion them – will attend the invitation only Women’s Leadership Breakfast at NSW Parliament House.

The NSW Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor, NSW Health Secretary Susan Pearce, Sydney University’s Executive Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor Medicine and Health Professor Robyn Ward AM and RPA trailblazer Associate Professor Simone Strasser are among those set to address the audience.

The Care in the Community forum and The Big Idea – a competition to identify ideas that have the potential to revolutionise healthcare – feature on Thursday 2 June, alongside the Clinical Trials Showcase and Sydney Research Awards.

On Friday 3 June, the Sydney Innovation and Research Symposium will include a panel discussion about the future of healthcare, keynote presentations, the staff innovation challenge The Pitch, The Great Debate and the SydneyConnect Exhibition Centre.

“It was 10 years ago when about 200 staff gathered for the first Sydney Innovation and Research Symposium. Since then we’ve built on that momentum and Innovation Week now brings together staff, clinicians, research and business partners and industry experts from our District and beyond,” Dr Anderson said.
