Australia Day Honours
Commitment to healthcare recognised in Australia Day Honours List.
Members of the Sydney Local Health District family have been named in the 2022 Australia Day Honours List, in recognition of their contribution to caring for our community.
Dr Deborah Cockrell has been appointed a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for her significant service to dentistry, to professional organisations, and to education.
An international dental specialist who runs a private practice on the NSW Central Coast, Dr Cockrell is the Lead for Oral Health at the Centre for Research and Education into Ageing at Concord Hospital.
Pamela Cohen, Dr Peter Gianoutsos, Alice Kang and Dr Conrad Winer were awarded a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division.
Ms Cohen was awarded an OAM for her service to community health, and to the social work profession. Now at St Vincent's Hospital Sydney, Ms Cohen was a social worker at the Thoracic Unit at RPA from 1966–1968.
Dr Gianoutsos was awarded an OAM for his service to medicine as a respiratory physician. He's been an Emeritus Consultant Physician at RPA since 2014. He was a Senior Respiratory Physician at the Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Department from 1971–2013.
Ms Kang (pictured) was awarded an OAM for service to veterans, and to community health. A founding member of the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway in inner-Sydney, Ms Kang was Concord Hospital's Director of Marketing and Community Relations until her retirement in 2020.
Dr Winer was awarded an OAM for his service to musculoskeletal medicine. He was the Director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine at RPA for 19 years to 1998.
They are among the 1,040 Australians recognised in the Australia Day 2022 Honours List.
"I would like to thank them for their exceptional service and congratulate them on their outstanding achievement," Dr Teresa Anderson AM, the District's Chief Executive, said.
