District scholarship to support future finance leaders.

Sydney Local Health District, and the family of popular RPA accountant, Sami Azmol, have launched an annual scholarship in his honour.

Sami died unexpectedly on 6 December last year, devastating the District's finance team, and the wider RPA and District family. He'd worked for the District for four years.

His parents Nahida and Golam, brother Rafi and sister-in-law Riffat, joined Chief Executive Dr Teresa Anderson and members of the finance team to launch the scholarship.

The Sami Azmol Scholarship, funded by the District, will provide $10,000 annually to support future finance leaders to fulfil their career goals.

"I know Sami was always encouraging to his colleagues, so this is a wonderful and fitting way to honour his memory and will benefit so many members of the finance team into the future," Dr Anderson said.

Acting District Director of Operations Ross Sinclair worked closely with Sami and remembered him as "the most wonderful human being. It was a privilege to greet him every day. He brought much light to our lives and was loved by so many."

After unveiling a plaque honouring Sami's time at the District, colleagues presented his family with an album of their memories, describing him as "authentic and articulate" with a calm aura and never a bad word to say about anyone.

"It was always a great day when Sami was in the office. He was a kind spirit, an exceptional person and a true friend," said one.

In return, Sami's family generously brought food to celebrate what would have been his 38th birthday with the team.

Sami's plaque now adorns the entry to RPA's finance department, with his spectacular smile providing a warm welcome to all who walk through the doors.
