Dr Jessica Luyue Teoh, an obstetrics and gynaecology registrar at RPA Hospital, has been named the NSW Young Woman of the Year 2025 for her advocacy in preventing domestic violence during pregnancy and her dedication to supporting women in crisis.

Dr Teoh said she was thrilled and humbled by the award.

“The winners and finalists in the awards are an absolutely amazing group of women, who are dedicated, passionate and loud, from diverse backgrounds,” she said.

The NSW Woman of the Year Awards celebrate women improving the lives of people across the state. The award for NSW Young Woman of the Year recognises women aged 16 to 30 who have demonstrated incredible potential or achievement in their chosen field.

Dr Teoh started her medical career at RPA in 2021, as a junior medical officer. In addition to her clinical role at RPA, Dr Teoh is a clinical associate lecturer at the University of Sydney and is implementing domestic violence screening in early pregnancy clinics and working towards policy change across the NSW public healthcare system. She also leads the Grants Committee at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women's Shelter, which secured more than $100,000 in grants last year.

In 2023, Dr Teoh became a Churchill Fellow, which allowed her to travel to six countries to advocate for the detection of domestic violence in pregnancy and learn about the systemic change needed to implement it.

“I’m motivated by addressing gender equity and making a difference in the gaps I can see in the system,” she says. “Winning the award helps to highlight the impact and work of people who surround me, who similarly advocate for women and families – doctors, midwives, nurses, support staff, and volunteers.”
