Planning for the $350 million Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment has reached a new stage, with community members, staff and patients now encouraged to provide feedback on the project’s concept design.

With master planning finalised for the project, consultation has now begun on the concept design stage – which presents the initial design layout. This design identifies and illustrates the relationship between clinical functions, services, buildings and other facilities.

A consultation platform has been developed that enables staff and community members to view interactive diagrams and floor plans. These show how key elements of the redevelopment are proposed to come together.

Canterbury Hospital General Manager Michael Morris emphasised the value of consultation with both staff and the community.

“It's so important that we hear from our staff, as nobody knows the hospital better than they do,” Mr Morris said.

“Their feedback, and the feedback we hope to receive from our community, will be vital to helping us and the project team to be sure that we are on the right track with the designs and planning for the redevelopment.”

District Chief Executive Deb Willcox said that she is confident that consultation on the concept design will benefit project outcomes.

“The goal is to determine a facility design that supports the hospital’s operational requirements, while addressing the diverse Canterbury community’s needs and preferences,” Ms Willcox said.

“We want to land on a design that achieves this while allowing the continued provision of high-quality care.

“If staff have questions about the concept design, floor plans or anything else relating to the redevelopment, they should head along to one of the engagement sessions planned at Canterbury Hospital.”
