Aboriginal Youth Gala Day 2025

Our District’s Aboriginal Cultural Support Team hosted an Aboriginal Youth Gala Day, bringing the community together at Camperdown Park in Sydney’s inner west.

Supported by the Sydney Swans, Basketball NSW, Positive Rugby and Deadly Choices-Sharks, the Aboriginal Youth Gala Day was packed with touch footy, running races, ball drills and more.

Young people also had the chance to connect with Elders, learn about local health services and meet some Australian wildlife thanks to Feature Creatures. Our District’s Chief Executive Deb Willcox also joined the fun.

“The Gala Day is a way for local Aboriginal youth to connect with our staff and services in a culturally safe environment,” said Trent Cameron, who manages the Aboriginal Cultural Support Team.

“Our aim is to improve health outcomes and the overall wellbeing of First Nations people. Engaging young Aboriginal people and promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports and physical activities is very important,” Mr Cameron said.

It’s the third time the District has held the Youth Gala Day, which is shaped by community consultations and guided by our Aboriginal Elders Advisory Group. A big thank-you to the Inner West Council for their support of the day.
