Concord Hospital senior clinical dietitian Dr Sim Yee (Cindy) Tan has been named NSW Allied Health Researcher of the Year at the NSW 2025 Excellence in Allied Health Awards.

Dr Tan has been recognised for her exemplary contributions to research to enhance allied health clinical practice.

“I feel very humbled by this award and this recognition of the work that I have done as a clinician-researcher,” Dr Tan said.

‘It is very challenging to do research work as a clinician. I had a lot of support along the way from the people I work with at Concord Hospital, Sydney Local Health District, and I feel this recognition reassures the trust they have in me. I am very thankful for their support.”

Dr Tan has more than 20 years of clinical experience, specialising in cancer nutrition at the Concord Cancer Centre at Concord Hospital.

She played a key role in establishing the Sydney Cancer Survivorship Centre service at the hospital and has expanded her research interests to include optimal nutritional support for cancer survivors.

In 2020, she began a part-time research fellow position at the University of Sydney, where she integrates her clinical experience and research interests to lead studies aimed at improving quality-of-life and clinical outcomes.

She has supervised more than 20 research student projects and mentored provisional Accredited Practicing Dietitians, allied health, nurses and doctors-in-training in incorporating research into their clinical care.

The District would also like to acknowledge senior pharmacy technician Mohammed Shareef who was a finalist in the NSW Allied Health Assistant / Technician / Support Person of the Year category.

The NSW Health Excellence in Allied Health Awards honour the passion, dedication, and contributions of allied health professionals and allied health assistants across NSW.
