New fly-through animation brings designs to life

The latest stage in the $750 million transformation of RPA hospital has been unveiled with a fly-through animation showcasing the latest designs and providing a virtual tour of the hospital’s expansion. 

The District’s Chief Executive Dr Teresa Anderson was joined by NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Health Infrastructure’s Northern Region Executive Director Leisa Rathborne to launch the animation.  

The centrepiece of the redevelopment is a new 15-storey tower which features light-filled spaces, as well as access to a new courtyard garden and patient lounges to provide a supportive environment for treatment and care.  

“The new fly-through... [shows] the community what we are going to do. There’s still more work to do. The preparatory ground works already underway. The actual building work – now that the schematic design has been done – will start later this year,” Mr Hazzard said. 

Staff, patients, visitors, and the wider community have provided input to inform the designs, ensuring that RPA continues to deliver high-quality, safe, respectful, and inclusive healthcare to meet the needs of the growing community. 

“The redevelopment of RPA is really very exciting, building on a wonderful history of research, teaching and education being integrated into clinical care. This means the world to our patients, to our families, and our staff to have state-of- the-art, fit for purpose, purpose-built facilities that can meet their needs,” Dr Anderson said. 

Mr Hazzard also toured the new Kidney Dialysis Centre in the Professor Marie Bashir Centre, which has been integrated into the hospital redevelopment.  

Dr Anderson thanked the District’s Capital Infrastructure and Engineering team and the District’s Kidney Dialysis team for the amazing work they did to create a positive environment for patients and staff. 

The hospital’s redevelopment is the most significant investment in RPA’s 140-year history and will support the continued delivery of world-class healthcare services for the 740,000 people who live in the District and the more than one million people who come into the District every day. 

The RPA redevelopment includes enhanced emergency and intensive care units, operating theatres, neonatal services and inpatient beds.
