Previously located on Level 5 Gloucester House, RPA Hospital’s new Infusion Centre is now open behind King George V (KGV) in a dedicated building providing more space for infusion patients to receive treatment.

Located at street level, the new facility is a similar model to RPA’s new dialysis unit that was officially opened in February this year.

Nurse Unit Manager, Sarah Fraser, has been an integral part in getting the new facility open, working with hospital executive and the capital works infrastructure team on the clinic layout, as well as coordinating the move of the unit from the former location.

“Many of our patients spend a lot of time with us at the Infusion Centre so it was really important for the space to be comfortable, easy to access and a welcoming environment to receive treatment,” Sarah said.

The infusion centre includes two large treatment rooms, two isolation rooms with ensuites and 18 brand new remote-controlled chairs which have been well received by the patients. The modern facility is also fitted with a large pharmacy along with a kitchenette facility and more bathrooms for patients and their carers.

Access to the centre is via Salisbury Road, with a dedicated drop off location and accessible parking allowing for easy, direct access for patients into the facility.

“We have received great feedback from patients and their families on this new space -  it’s bright, open and being a purpose-built facility allows for staff to be able to deliver the best care to our patients in a comfortable environment,” Sarah said.

The new centre, designed in consultation with patients and clinicians, is part of the initial stages of the RPA $750 million redevelopment, with major stage development to commence later in the year.

“We are very excited that the doors are now open to the new Infusion Centre at RPA,” RPA's General Manager Kiel Harvey said.

“Thanks to all those involved including our clinicians, capital works and redevelopment teams for delivering this well-planned and well thought-out space. Fitted with state-of-the-art treatment chairs in a much larger space, it’s paramount that we provide patients with a comfortable and accommodating environment whilst receiving treatment, but also a purpose-built environment for our staff to deliver the service,” he said.

Open Monday to Friday, the infusion centre provides a variety of treatments including iron infusions, IV antibiotics, monoclonal antibodies and blood and blood products. Patients receiving treatment must have a referral from an RPA specialist – the centre does not accept General Practitioner (GP) referrals.

Any appointments previously located at Level 5 Gloucester House will now be in the new centre behind King George V building.
