People across our District came together today for our Staff Health and Wellbeing Day.

Staff were invited to take time out of their day to connect with one another and enjoy a range of wellness activities.

It marked the beginning of Sydney Innovation Week, an annual showcase of our District’s people, ideas and innovations.

A highlight of the day was Cuppa with a Colleague, where staff were invited to attend morning teas or organise their own.

Staff at Balmain, Concord, Canterbury, RPA and Sydney Dental Hospitals and at Sydney Education joined colleagues and executives for a cuppa, some refreshments

and a chat.

Teams from key District initiatives and partners including SmartSalary, Aware Super, STEPtember, Fitness Passport and the newly-launched MyDistrictOK staff wellbeing initiative were also present to share information and resources with their colleagues.

“I always look forward to Cuppa with a Colleague,” said Gina Finocchiaro, our District’s Workforce and Corporate Operations Director.

“It’s a true celebration of our greatest asset; the people who power our District, so it’s wonderful to see everyone taking some time for themselves.”

Many staff also engaged in some self-care by taking part in wellness sessions across our facilities.

At Balmain, staff participated in Release and Recharge Yoga, while at RPA, they engaged in a Qigong session.

There was a Nutrition Workshop at Croydon Health Centre and at Concord and Canterbury, there were Mindfulness, Meditation and Compassion sessions.

At RPA, Dylan Zapirain, our District’s Workforce Attraction and Marketing Manager, was on hand to offer staff some expert advice on using LinkedIn, and our Work Health and Safety team shared tips on making our workspaces more ergonomic.

“It’s been brilliant to see people really enjoy themselves today,” said Shannon Gerber, our District’s Staff Wellbeing Coordinator.

“We all work hard so it’s important to ensure we’re taking care of ourselves too.”

It was a fun, fitting start to five days of events held as part of Sydney Innovation Week.

“I’m so pleased that so many colleagues and friends got involved in today’s festivities,” said Dr Teresa Anderson, our District’s Chief Executive.

“Innovation Week is a very special time in our District, so what better way to kick it off than by celebrating our incredible staff?”

Sydney Innovation Week runs until Friday 21 July, with opportunities to get involved in events in person or virtually via the livestream.
