About this course
Are you using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with calculations and want to expand your skills? Building upon Microsoft Excel Foundations, this course will equip you to become proficient with your own spreadsheets, making effective use of formulas, auto functions, and drop-down lists to aid data entry and management.
Delivered by an experienced Microsoft Office trainer (in person at our Rozelle Computer Training Lab), this course will help you enhance your productivity.
As a participant, on course completion, you will receive a manual to provide you with additional guidance for use in the workplace.

This course is appropriate for any staff member experienced with Microsoft Excel who needs additional skills in formulas, functions, and lists.
What will you learn?
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Use Microsoft Excel formulas to perform calculations – topics include:
- Using the formula bar, cell content versus cell value
- Fill down, when to use relative and absolute references
- Precedents and dependents
- Formula auditing
- Error checking
- Text to columns
- What if analysis
Use Microsoft Excel functions to perform specific calculations or to return information about your spreadsheet data – topics include:
- Autosum (), sum all rows and columns
- Arguments – form and multiple arguments
- Vlookup ()
- Create names from list
- Using names in functions
- Text functions: Len, Left, Right, Mid, Find, Trim
- Indirect-lookup and lookup
Use Microsoft Excel to perform list functions– topics include:
- Design, auto complete, using pick lists, applying data validation, filling in gaps in data
- Go to special
- Freeze frames
- Named areas
