The Sydney Local Health District Nursing & Midwifery Research team are committed to promote research and evidence based practice to support the effectiveness of nursing and midwifery care and enhance patient and family centred outcomes.

Our District Nursing and Midwifery Research team is affiliated with the University of Sydney, Sydney Research and have strong collaborations with local, national and international organisations.

The research activities are aligned with the Sydney Local Health District Nursing & Midwifery Service strategic priorities and the Sydney Local Health District Research Strategic Plan which inform the strategic directions for clinical practice, workforce, information and communication technology and research.

The goals of District Nursing and Midwifery Research are to support the translation of research into practice and build a strong and independent nursing and midwifery presence across the District through:

  • Building research capacity and research visibility for nurses and midwives
  • Providing research education and support that targets research practice and evidence use
  • Developing a body of innovative research that includes clinical intervention related Patient and Family Centred Care research for Patient Care Initiative activities

Nursing and Midwifery Initiatives and Research Symposium

The annual symposium brings together nurses and midwives across the District, to showcase the outstanding research and practice development activities occurring within the domains of Clinical Practice, Patient and Family Centred Care/Experience, Workforce/Workplace and Systems and Technology and Informatics.

Excellent awards are presented to recognise and encourage new knowledge builders in their improvement and discovery pursuits. The awards are substantial and are intended to support the research and innovation development, activities and dissemination of nurse and midwife-led research and innovation across the district.
