People Matter Employee Survey
In the 2022 People Matter Employee Survey, Sydney topped the list of Local Health Districts receiving the highest ratings for every theme in the survey… including the highest engagement and culture index of any local health district in NSW at 67 and 65 per cent respectively.
Of the 49 per cent of our staff who completed the survey:
87 per cent of staff say – “I understand what is expected of me to do well in my job.”
73 per cent say “I feel like I belong…”
And … 74 per cent say “I’m proud to tell others where I work.”
Our annual Innovation and Excellence Awards recognise the significant contributions of our staff. The Sydney Local Health District Innovation and Excellence Awards aim to recognise, celebrate and encourage healthcare innovation and excellence. Each year Sydney Local Health District Staff come to work each day to make a difference.
We also have an annual Service Awards Program for all staff, recognising a significant contribution to NSW Health for 10 or more years.

We offer generous leave entitlements including accrued days off each month, 4 weeks annual leave each year, leave loading, sick leave, paid parental leave, long service leave, learning and development leave and leave options for carers. Our superannuation employer contribution is 10.5 per cent. Most roles are 38 hour working weeks with flexible work arrangements.
Sydney has a range of flexible working options to assist you in finding a work-life balance. There are a range of flexible working options available depending on your role including flexible hours, part-time options, job-sharing and where possible working from home arrangements may be utilised.
Salary packaging is a simple way for our staff to increase their take home pay by reducing their taxable income and therefore the amount of tax they pay.

Workplace Giving Program
We are fortunate in Australia to have one of the best health care systems in the world. As part of our commitment to improving healthcare services globally, our District has a Workplace Giving Program. Each week, a number of our staff give generously to support the excellent work of Valerie Browning AM and Dr Andrew Browning in Ethiopia through the Barbara May Foundation. A commitment of $1 a week from staff provides a monthly donation which covers the entire running costs of a Maternity Hospital in Ethiopia. This funding provides essential healthcare, saving the lives of mothers and their babies, as well as supporting education and building infrastructure for the community.
