About this course

This one-day workshop is designed to equip registered nurses and midwives for the role of team leader or in-charge of shift.

Who should attend?

This course is appropriate for any registered nurses or registered midwives with a minimum of 12 months experience.

What will you learn?

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  1. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the nurse or midwife in-charge role
  2. Apply leadership and communication skills to the role of the nurse or midwife in-charge of shift
  3. Work with interdisciplinary teams 
  4. Support staff and coordinate shifts 
  5. Manage patient flow systems
  6. Identify and manage challenging issues and escalation processes 
  7. Describe the value of safety huddles 
  8. Describe the process for coroners’ cases and the management of serious clinical incidents 
  9. Manage high risk patients.
