About this course

The HLT37315 Certificate III in Health Administration is a Nationally Recognised qualification. This qualification reflects the range of roles of Administration Officers, who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience whilst supporting nursing, medical and allied health professionals.   

Target audience

To apply for this program, students need to be current staff members of Sydney Local Health District. Students can be employed on a full-time, part-time, or casual basis.  

The HLT37315 Certificate III in Health Administration program is targeted at existing Administration Officers. This includes Clinical Support Officers and general Administration Officers who are working in a wide range of contexts within health.  Other aspiring staff who want to move to Administration roles are encouraged to apply for this qualification.  

Approvals from the workplace manager and the program coordinator are required for aspiring staff to apply for this program. These students will be required to undertake additional work in the workplace to ensure they obtain the knowledge and skills required to meet the requirements of the program. Manager approvals and agreement are required to ensure students have opportunity to practice and undertake the administration work.  

Support provided to participants

All students will be provided with support from the program coordinator and their own supervisors who will need to authorise attendance, verify workplace performance, and provide support to their staff member throughout the program. 

Participant requirements

Students must meet the following course entry requirements:  

  •  Submission of the Expression of Interest (EOI) form to the Program Coordinator by the closing date, with supporting documentation:
    • Manager’s endorsement and signature.
    • Supporting documents such as completed course transcripts.
  • Ability to commit the required time to attend face-to-face training as per the Program schedule.
  • Ability to commit the required time to engage in independent study and assessment completion outside of the workplace.
  • Ability to use computers comfortably and confidently, and relevant computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and web functions.  

Training sessions will be held at Sydney Education Rozelle Campus, Building 301, Corner Cecily Street &, Balmain Rd, Rozelle or Camperdown Campus, Level 1, 28-32 Mallett Street, Camperdown.

At the end of this program, students will have the knowledge and skills to:  

  • Interpret, use and apply medical terminology in a range of health administration contexts to ensure effective communication and documentation.
  • Demonstrate effective communication strategies to interact respectfully and professionally with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders in health or community service settings.
  • Apply inclusive practices and cultural awareness to support respectful and effective interactions with individuals form diverse backgrounds.
  • Implement standard and transmission-based precautions to maintain infection control and contribute to a safe healthcare environment.
  • Identify and follow workplace health and safety procedures to contribute to a safe working environment for themselves and others.
  • Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workplace efficiency and service quality.
  • Collect, assess and manage workplace information to support effective decision-making and administrative operations.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to work practices and procedures to support innovation and positive change in the workplace.
