About this course

This two-day course will provide opportunities for you to develop and demonstrate advanced knowledge, understanding and skills in the management of different types of acute and chronic wounds through the application of evidence-based practice and principles.

Who should attend?

This course is appropriate for registered nurses, registered midwives, enrolled nurses and allied health professionals with relevance of wound management in their practice.

What will you learn?

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  1. Discuss the pathophysiology and management of burn injuries and scars, leg ulcers, draining wounds and fistulae and high risk foot ulcers
  2. Understand the principles of negative pressure wound therapy
  3. Recognise the role of medications in wound healing
  4. Discuss the principles and practice of graduated compression therapy
  5. Identify the indications and benefits of commonly used wound management products
  6. Discuss the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to wound management
  7. Identify individual scope of practice, limitations, organisational policies or guidelines and the need for referral for patients with complex wound management needs.
