About this course
The aim of this two-day course is to provide opportunities for you to develop and demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills to practise evidence based wound management using a patient-centred, collaborative and interdisciplinary approach.
Who should attend?
Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives Enrolled Nurses and Allied Health Professionals in Sydney Local Health District with responsibilities for wound management in clinical practice.
What will you learn?
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Describe the normal wound healing process to recognise when a wound is no longer following the normal healing trajectory.
- Discuss the importance of a holistic assessment of the patient, the wound and the patient’s environment.
- Recognise the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to wound assessment and management.
- Describe evidenced based principles of wound assessment, wound management and documentation to optimise care.
- Identify the clinical features, indications, limitations and guidelines for the use of common wound care products.
- Discuss the pathophysiology of pressure injury development, Moisture Associated Skin Damage (MASD) and Skin Tears and identify the strategies used to prevent and manage these conditions in accordance with Sydney Local Health District policy.
- Identify individual scope of practice, limitations, resources, organisational policies/procedures and the referral process for patients with complex wound management needs.
