Where do you work in Sydney Local Health District?

I'm a Health Promotion Officer, in Population Health

What do you do?

My team works across priority population portfolios related to HIV and other blood-borne viruses. We deliver health education sessions, provide testing in hard-to-reach settings, conduct research, support staff education, and contribute to policy development.

Why do you do what you do?

I used to work as a Registered Nurse at RPA Hospital and really enjoyed providing one-on-one clinical care to patients and their families. Moving into Population Health has been a very different experience, particularly working with vulnerable communities in our District. My team and I are driven by a strong commitment to achieving health equity. Empowering communities who experience stigma, discrimination, and marginalisation and supporting people to take charge of their health, that's what fills my cup. It's the most meaningful part of what we do.

What’s the best thing about your workplace?

I genuinely look forward to coming to work every day. I love the variety that no two days are the same and I feel incredibly lucky to work in a space where creativity and innovation are encouraged. Most importantly, I feel heard. That’s a reflection of our amazing General Manager, Directors, Managers, and colleagues, who are all passionate and driven to make a difference in the lives of our communities.

What’s the nicest thing a colleague has ever done for you?

In my first few weeks on the team, it was my 30th birthday. The team took me out for lunch, gave me a thoughtful gift and a card. At the time, they barely knew me but they went out of their way to make me feel celebrated and valued. That small gesture left a lasting impression and really made me feel like I belonged from day one.

What inspired you to join the People Matter Committee?

Like my fellow committee members Natali and Lara, I was inspired to join because I want to help create positive change in our department. I believe in the value of staff voices and want to help ensure our workplace continues to grow, evolve, and reflect what matters most to the people working in it.
