STrIDeS – Specialised Health Team for People with Intellectual Disability

Who are we?

A social worker, nurse, developmental paediatrician and rehabilitation specialist (doctors).

What do we provide?

We provide a health assessment for children, adolescents and adults with intellectual disability and complex unmet health needs. We develop a health care report with recommendations. We work with the person, their carers, families and GP to carry out the recommendations. StrIDeS will help link the person to other useful services.

StrIDeS also provide consultations for staff in Sydney Local Health District facilities and  primary health care providers in Sydney Local Health District.

What age group do we see?

Children, young people and adults under 65 years of age and their families or carers.

How to contact us?

To attend our service, you will need a referral from your local doctor. The team does not provide ongoing care or case management.

Where are we located?

The Disability Specialist Unit (DSU)

Who are we?

Neuropsychologists, a social worker, and developmental paediatricians (doctors who specialise in child development).

What do we provide?

We provide a comprehensive diagnostic assessment for children who are suspected to have a developmental delay or disability. This includes support for families or carers around the time of diagnosis.

What age group do we see?

Children from birth to 18 years, with priority given to pre-school aged children.

How to contact us?

To attend our service, you will need a referral from a paediatrician.
