Balmain Hospital is a community-based healthcare facility, dedicated to Aged Care, Rehabilitation and General Practice. The heritage features of Balmain Hospital have been a long-standing and highly identifiable feature of the Balmain Peninsula for nearly 140 years, and the facility continues to be committed to providing the highest standards of healthcare to meet the needs of the community. 

Balmain Hospital is accredited under the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

Balmain Cottage Hospital opened on 10 August 1885 and was located behind the present Court House on Darling Street. It consisted of four beds and treated 39 patients that first year.
