About this course

This course is for staff working within health services that implement domestic violence routine screening. The training will help staff develop the skills and confidence to safely screen and respond to domestic violence disclosures.

Who should attend?

All clinical staff, Aboriginal health practitioners and Aboriginal health workers who work in health services who have implemented domestic violence routine screening using the Domestic Violence Routine Screening tool, and will conduct domestic violence routine screening screening as part of their role.

What will you learn?

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  1. Understand domestic and family violence and its health impacts and the rationale for screening
  2. Understand the importance of the domestic violence routine screening process and outcomes
  3. Apply knowledge and skills to using the NSW Health Domestic Violence Screening tool
  4. Appropriately respond to disclosures of domestic violence, keeping safety at the centre of any interactions
  5. Confidently deliver the screening preamble and questions
  6. Understand the requirements for support to victims including risk assessment, safety planning and reporting requirements
