About this course

The course enables workers to gain a level of knowledge and skills required to support and protect children and young people who are at risk of harm in relation to child abuse and neglect. This course covers the legislative and policy frameworks for Health Staff.

This course builds on the mandatory Child Wellbeing and Child Protection modules.

This module contains information that may be emotionally confronting

Who should attend?

Staff who are identified as working in areas or roles where they deal with families and children. 

What will you learn?

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  1. Implement work practices that support the protection of children and young people
  2. Increase awareness of the impact of child abuse and neglect
  3. Identify indicators and risk factors for children and young people at risk of harm
  4. Build an understanding of child protection legislation, legal responsibilities and policy requirements as NSW Health staff
  5. How to respond to a possible risk of harm, consultation process and use of the Mandatory Reporters Guide to assess risk of harm
  6. Enhancing the quality of child protection reporting
  7. Apply ethical and nurturing practices in work with children and young people
  8. How to respond should a child or adult make a disclosure to you
