About this course

This two-day course is designed to help you develop advanced skills and knowledge for identifying, assessing, analysing and managing infection risks using current standards, guidelines, policies and evidence-based practice. This course focuses on developing the skills and knowledge required for participants to communicate effectively about infection prevention and control.

Who should attend?

Registered nurses and midwives, enrolled nurses and allied health professionals in Sydney Local Health District with responsibilities as infection prevention and control lead in clinical practice.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Discuss antimicrobial resistance and multi-drug resistant organisms. 
  2. Identify the process of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilisation. 
  3. Recognise and respond to infectious disease outbreaks.
  4. Discuss the infection prevention and control strategies for construction and renovation. 
  5. Describe the importance of infection prevention and control audits. 
  6. Discuss the significance of Quality Improvement Initiatives to prevent and control healthcare-associated infections.
  7. Recognise and respond to noncompliance with infection prevention and control practices using appropriate communication strategies. 
  8. Identify the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods, Therapeutic Goods Administration, and product selection procedures for hospitals.
