About this course

This one-day course will allow you to apply knowledge of infection prevention and control principles to determine measures to prevent and control transmissible diseases and infections in a healthcare setting. It will also help you develop advanced skills and knowledge to train and assess healthcare workers in donning and doffing Personal Protective Equipment.

Who should attend?

Registered nurses, registered midwives, enrolled nurses, clinical nurse or clinical midwifery educators, infection prevention and control champions, and allied health professionals from the Sydney Local Health District who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills of infection prevention and control in clinical practice.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Recognise the infection process using the chain of infection model
  2. Describe evidence-based infection prevention and control principles and other resources available for healthcare staff
  3. Recognise the infection prevention and control systems and public health
  4. Discuss the significance of infectious diseases and healthcare-associated infections
  5. Understand the significance of aseptic technique and healthcare-associated infections
  6. Apply standard and transmission-based precautions
  7. Assess healthcare workers on their practical donning and doffing skills and provide education as required
  8. Explain strategies for preventing and managing sharp injuries and exposures.
