About this course
This three-day course provides you with the theoretical knowledge and clinical skills required to manage the nursing care of a trauma patient in an emergency department setting. This course includes presentations and workshops that are delivered by expert trauma clinicians from across our District.
At the end of the course all participants will sit a simulated trauma viva to assess their knowledge and skills.

This course is appropriate for any registered nurse working in an Emergency Department setting.
What will you learn?
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Describe common injuries that occur in the trauma patient and be able to identify the assessment and management of these injuries.
- Use strategies to perform a clinical assessment on the trauma patient and identify life threatening injuries.
- Identify priorities in patient care and implement appropriate nursing interventions for the trauma patient.
- Describe primary, secondary assessment using a systematic approach to monitor the health status of the trauma patient.
- Select appropriate interventions to maintain airway patency and provide adequate ventilation in the trauma patient.
- Describe a range of splints and outline their use in the management of traumatic musculoskeletal injuries.
