About
The RPA Basic Physician Training (BPT) Network offers a holistic approach to medical education, emphasising clinical experience, professional development and mentorship.
With our well-established, comprehensive training program, we prepare trainees to successfully complete basic physician training inclusive of the FRACP Written and Clinical Examinations.
The network model of the RPA BPT Program provides diverse clinical exposure across multiple settings and demographics, creating well-rounded physicians of the future. Our aim is to cultivate trainees with compassion, integrity and excellence.
Our training team are passionate about supporting our trainees. We aim to develop not just excellent physicians, but future clinician leaders.
Our history and achievements
RPA has a proud history as Australia’s first teaching hospital, beginning in 1884. It remains a leader in healthcare and medical education at all training levels.
The RPA BPT Network has a consistent track record of success in the FRACP Written and Clinical Examinations across a large number of trainees. With an average Written and Clinical Exam pass rate of 90 per cent across 20-30 trainees annually, this is significantly higher than state and national average pass rates.
Additionally, our trainees have a strong record of obtaining their desired Advanced Trainee positions across the breadth of medical specialties. This is a reflection of both our ability to consistently produce excellent physicians and the exceptional professional development, networking and mentorship opportunities provided within our network.
The program has also produced three Bryan Hudson Medal winners in recent history, which recognises the trainee with the top performance in the FRACP exams. These trainees are:
| 2015 | Dr Jad Othman |
|---|---|
| 2011 | Dr Brent O'Carrigan |
| 2010 | Dr Kelly Stanton |
Our training team
The success of the RPA BPT Network program is in no small part due to the dedication and commitment of senior clinicians and advanced trainees across all our network hospitals, combining to create a culture of excellence in medical training. Heading this collaborative effort is a dedicated training team with a passion for innovative, high-quality clinical teaching and training.
