Research Mentoring Program
Part of the research mission for the Institute of Precision Medicine & Bioinformatics is to leverage clinical and scientific expertise existing within Sydney Local Health District as a cornerstone for promoting and expanding basic and translational genomic research excellence within the District. To achieve this goal, providing guidance to clinician researchers, career scientists, nurses and allied health workers, is key to developing professional skills and expanding research networks to enable positive research outcomes.
The Institute of Precision Medicine & Bioinformatics Research Mentoring Program, coordinated by Professor Marina Kennerson, provides guidance, advice and imparts personal experience, as part of a roadmap for researchers wishing to submit future competitive grants involving genomics or bioinformatics research. Sessions include strategies for assembling a multi-disciplined and diverse team of chief investigators, components needed for promoting a compelling Project Impact Statement, guidance to address project risks and productive project outcomes as well as discussion on how to incorporate consumer advocacy and community engagement as an integral part of a research project.
