Where are they now

We asked some of our past Grads to share their experience with the Program, and the exciting opportunities that followed. Here's what they said.

General Manager, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

I would strongly recommend anyone interested in a management career in NSW Health, to consider applying for the Sydney Local Health District Graduate Health Management Program. Irrespective of their clinical or non-clinical background. The relationships and skills I developed throughout the Program, provided me with the platform to accelerate my career. Since finishing the program, I have progressed through many management roles and I am now the General Manager at one of Australia’s leading hospitals. If you have a strong work ethic and public health system values, this Program is right for you.

The Sol Bellear Graduate Health Management Scholarship is a unique opportunity to work in the community and closely with senior executives of both the Aboriginal Medical Service Redfern (AMS) and Sydney Local Health District, allowing recipients to learn from the top-level management while gaining frontline experiences in health care management. Paying tribute to Uncle Sol’s legacy, this program provides opportunity to develop future Aboriginal leaders and executives in health care. I am the first graduate of the Sol Bellear Scholarship and am grateful of the invaluable experiences I had throughout the program. Since finishing the program, I have held various management roles and am now the Operations Manager of Cardiovascular Services. If you are looking for an exciting opportunity that provides a comprehensive pathway for training and career progression into health management, join the team at Sydney Local Health District.

The Program has given me unique opportunities to gain insight into how health works from a systems level. Invaluable experiences have helped me understand the complexities and nuances of delivering healthcare in the public system. I’ve been fortunate to work with, and receive support and mentorship from, senior executives from the Sydney Local Health District and The Australian Commission of Safety and Quality in Healthcare. Through the Program I’ve been challenged and grown in unexpected ways, met like-minded people and built new friendships.

Through the Program I gained a comprehensive understanding of the health care system and skills I’ll use throughout my career. The motivational and inspiring leaders within Sydney Local Health District were incredibly supportive during my placements. I’ve had the privilege of working with multiple teams of clinicians and health managers, on projects with tangibly positive outcomes for staff, patients, and the community. The Program has allowed me to work in a dynamic industry where every day presents a new opportunity to improve and innovate.
