Palliative Care
Palliative care is treatment, care and support for people with a life-limiting illness.
Our goal is to improve quality of life for you and your family by:
- Supporting you and your family at home
- Providing relief from pain and other symptoms
- Affirming life and acknowledging dying as a normal process
What to expect
Palliative care is provided to you at home by Sydney District Nursing, RPA Virtual Hospital.
Our nurses will assess your symptoms and talk with your General Practitioner (GP) about managing your care. They may also ask your GP to refer you to a palliative care medical specialist.
Your nurse will talk with you about Advance Care Planning. This means planning for your future health care choices.
Your nurse can also make referrals to allied health services. This includes qualified and experienced physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, dietitians, occupational therapists and social workers, who collaborate to improve the quality of your care.
Please let us know if you need an interpreter or have special needs such as hearing problems.
All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients are offered cultural support from a Senior Aboriginal Health Worker who specialises in palliative care.
