Hopes generosity can inspire
Volunteer honours wife's memory with donation of incubator.
A Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital volunteer says he hopes his donation to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will inspire others to directly support the hospital’s work.
Ron Rosalky donated the money to fund a new incubator for the NICU in honour of his wife Jenny, who passed away in 2025.
“My wife Jenny and I had both been volunteers for a long time and we had a particular affinity with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,” he said.
“With Jenny’s death last June, I wanted to do something in her name and they needed more of the Babyleo incubators.
“There is always pressure on public hospital budgets and this was a real opportunity to spend the money while I’m alive on something really useful.
"I’ve always worked on the basis that he who dies with a lot of money in the bank isn’t a winner.”
Ron’s donation was celebrated with a morning tea at RPA and a demonstration of the new incubator on Friday 13 February.
Sydney Local Health District Chief Executive Deb Willcox AM said she was grateful for the couple’s contributions to RPA.
“Both Ron and Jenny have made such an incredible impact on RPA in their work as volunteers, especially helping care for the babies in our NICU,” Deb said.
“To build on that care and dedication with this donation is simply wonderful. We are so grateful for Ron’s generosity and we are delighted to honour Jenny’s name for years to come.”
Ron, who still volunteers several days a week at RPA, encouraged members of the community to support their local hospital if they could.
“It’s the sort of thing that people should be doing. If I can, I will do more.”
