Supporting Kids to Reach Every S-milestone
Promoting healthy smiles during Dental Health Week with early care and family support.
The team at Concord Community Dental Clinic celebrated Dental Health Week 2025 by highlighting the important role that positive dental experiences play in setting children up for a lifetime of healthy smiles. This year’s campaign theme, “Help kids reach every S-milestone”, focuses on supporting children through key oral health stages, from baby teeth to lifelong hygiene habits, through early and consistent care.
Mythili, who is 10 years old, recently visited the clinic with her dad for a series of appointments that marked important steps in her oral health journey. Together with the dental team, they focused on prevention and education – using disclosing agents to reveal areas needing extra brushing, performing a gentle scale and clean, applying fluoride varnish and placing fissure sealants to protect her molars.
Since Mythili needed additional dental treatment, a comprehensive assessment was done and treatment plan made. The information was explained to Mythili’s parent in clear and simple language encouraging questions and meaningful engagement.
“Dental caries in childhood are a strong predictor of caries in adulthood, which is why helping children build healthy oral habits early on is so critical,” said Jinous Eighani-Roushani, Oral Health Therapist for Sydney Local Health District.
“Ensuring young patients have safe, positive and memorable experiences at their dental visits sets the foundation for regular, ongoing preventative visits, rather than one-off appointments driven by pain.”
Establishing good habits early – such as brushing with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between teeth, choosing foods with more vegetables and fruits and attending regular check-ups – helps children maintain good oral health throughout their lives.
Dental Health Week 2025, held from 4 to 10 August, highlights the importance of children’s oral health milestones and encourages families to support good habits from an early age. The campaign focuses on how parents, carers and dental professionals can work together to help kids build strong, lifelong oral health routines.
